Framing the television, setting the living room scene...

These days we might maintain that the television is the focus of our living rooms, it’s also important to take into account how we frame the room. It’s all very well having a fancy tv in the centre of the room. However if you don’t set the scene, you’ll definitely feel it.

It’s all about the flow of the room, it needs to function as a communal area of the home, as an entertainment space, and also as a media auditorium. To start with, you need to position your seating to create a balance in the room. Between both angling towards the television, and creating a space where everyone can talk.

Next there’s the importance of where to place your drinks, it sounds simple, but if not considered can be a logistical nightmare. Side tables, occasional tables and coffee tables. 

Utilised correctly, these can be coordinated around your home to provide the perfect amount of drinks perches, on demand. And then be tucked away when not required.

Find the Balance between TV and Conversation

Next is storage. Whilst not the typical storage location in the home, the living room can easily become overrun with things if you don’t plan for storage.

Low bookcases can take a lot of accessories, books and media without taking over the walls. This gives space for an array of art or mirrors to really make the most of wall space.

Large corner units, are also fantastic for fully utilising space that normally would be either unused or completely wasted. They also take advantage of their height to provide the same, if not more storage, without compromising on floorspace.

Going back to coffee tables, a blanket box can double as a fantastic coffee table. Whilst also giving great storage to things that you definitely need, but only use occasionally.

All in all, there’s no right or wrong way to plan your living room, but as with all things, take your time and do it properly. Then you’ll be setting the living room, ready to truly enjoy your space.
