Furniture For Your Home, And Your Future
When it comes to furnishing your home, it’s more than just choosing pieces that fit your current style. It’s about creating a space that evolves
Furniture in the reclaimed category uses wood that has been taken from an old structure, and reused for something else. Reclaimed Wood has its own history and is recycled to meet the ever growing need for sustainable and eco friendly products.
These materials have already had a purpose, so it’s look is unique, you’re working around the wood to try and create something. Each line it’s own story, and it’s resilience is proven by its age.
It’s resilient nature is due to the fact that it’s normally industrial wood that gets repurposed. Tried and tested in it’s durability, so surviving a family home is a walk in the park.
It’s age is also a big factor in its durability, we don’t have to wait to grow well seasoned wood, it’s already there. It also tends to have a greater age than most wood in production these days, creating a denser finished article, less prone to cracking.
Then we have rustic, or distressed wood. Rustic furniture is all about giving the impression of reclaimed wood, without the arduous task of finding suitable older wood. This also gives true creative license allowing for uniformity in the rustic nature, giving clean lines as you go for a natural, yet ordered design.
By using woods such as mango for distressed designs, we are able to still get an eco friendly wood source. It also allows the costs to stay down on what otherwise would be a very expensive piece of furniture.
Our Urban Industrial Range pairs distressed mango wood with repurposed Ironwork. Whilst our Brooklyn Industrial features reclaimed industrial pine with distressed sold iron features.
Of course, it is more eco conscious to go for the reclaimed wood, as new wood hasn’t entered the market. However if you’re looking at newer, industrial or Scandiesque designs, and the heavy reclaimed woods aren’t for you.
Then as long as you know the source of the wood, there’s nothing wrong with opting for furniture that appears older. As long as the quality is sound, and the wood is responsibly sourced, you can happily enjoy that piece for years.
