Furniture For Your Home, And Your Future
When it comes to furnishing your home, it’s more than just choosing pieces that fit your current style. It’s about creating a space that evolves
It’s not all about mango here at Casa Bella, we also stock plenty of Sheesham pieces.
Sheesham, also known as Indian Rosewood, is a variant of Rosewood, that highly sought after tree. It is one of the most durable woods going, right up there with Teak and Cherry wood, however, it does not share the same price range.
Sheesham, similarly to Mango wood, is a very fast growing tree, maturing in 15 to 20 years, which for a Hardwood is lightning, this allows for a far more renewable source, whilst still providing the kind of quality expected from much slower growing woods.
This sturdy, heavy wood is fantastic for tables, chairs, sideboards and other pieces, reassuringly heavy so you know it’ll stand the test of time.
Our Mandir, Rio, Jali, Keeba and Cuba ranges all come from this fantastic wood, ranging from that deep rose, to lighter hues of golden rose, it’s a beautiful wood that never fails to impress with its iconic grains.
Sheesham is popular not just for its durability, but for its workability too, it’s very susceptible to carving and works well with all manners of glues and joinery.
A popular decorative style for Sheesham wood is the Jali style of latticed, wrought iron, which makes a beautiful mirror image to the modern industrial style furniture with a more traditional flair.
A lot of our reclaimed pieces feature a high level of Sheesham, this is due to its long lasting durability, needing very little upkeep to become an heirloom to stand the test of time.
Of course it’s down to you to decide what wood to choose, with Sheesham you get a more durable, non warping wood, but it is reassuringly heavy. However if those golden honey notes are the ones for you, then you can’t go wrong with Sheesham.
