Your Simple Guide to Caring for Wooden Furniture

Over time, even the most careful of us can end up with some small scratches or marks on our solid wooden furniture. But don’t worry, these are usually pretty easy to fix using furniture wax.
There are a variety of waxes out there, that are available in many different shades. They come in forms from soft, hard and liquid, which gives us a large amount of flexibility in repairing these small imperfections on our wood.
Liquid waxes, like ones made from beeswax, are perfect for polishing natural wood and fixing those lighter surface marks. Apply a thin layer with a soft cloth, following the direction of the wood grain. Let it sit for 10 minutes before gently buffing it up.
Soft waxes are brilliant for filling in slightly deeper scratches or chips, especially on parts of the furniture that don’t get used as much, like the sides or legs. You just gently rub the wax into the mark, pressing it in firmly, then buff it smooth with a clean cloth.
For surfaces that see a lot of use, like table tops, hard wax is your best bet. First, you need to heat up the end of the wax stick to melt it a bit. Then use a soft tool to press the wax right into the scratch. Leave it for a couple of minutes to harden, then wipe away any excess.
Taking Out Drawers
The great thing about our drawers is that they have a little catch at the back to stop them from accidentally sliding out. When you want to take a drawer out, locate that catch and line it up with the gap at the back, then gently pull the drawer out.
Adjusting Doors Hinges
Over time, the hinges on cabinet doors can sometimes get a bit out of whack, making the doors sit unevenly. Luckily, this is an easy fix! First, make sure your furniture is on a nice flat surface. Then use the adjustment screws on the hinges to tweak the positioning until the doors are hanging perfectly flush.
